Future Foes

A quick rundown of what Homerism saw out of the Sooners’ upcoming opponents on Saturday:

*Washington: The Huskies kept it close against the Ducks at Autzen on Saturday night for about two-and-a-half quarters before Oregon blew the game open. It definitely looked more like a 44-10 game in the second half than the first for Tyrone Willingham’s crew, which showed a noticeable lack of offensive pop. The Oregon front four battered stud QB Jake Locker to the point that he was pulled from the game late. If the Washington offensive line doesn’t get better fast, there’s no way he survives OU’s fearsome pass rush.

*Oklahoma State: The Pokes were able to shake off their recent road struggles in Saturday’s 26-point win over Washington State, which has to be promising for Cowboy fans. Given Wazzu’s tumultuous offseason, it’s tough to tell much from this game, especially regarding how far OSU’s defense has progressed. The Cougars looked out-of-sync the entire game on offense while trying to install new coach Paul Wulff’s spread. The upcoming date with Houston should be a much better barometer of where the Cowboys stand.

Unfortunately, those were the only games Homerism could squeeze in on Saturday. Regarding potential Big XII championship game opponents, I offered my opinion of Missouri’s opener yesterday. Colorado looked very impressive on Sunday night, taking down Colorado State in a nasty in-state rivalry game. Coach Dan Hawkins’ son Cody efficiently moved the Buffs offense, particularly in the fourth quarter, and freshman Darrell Scott showed the kind of impressive glimpses expected of a stud running back recruit. All in all, Homerism remains high on the Buffs this season despite a brutal schedule.
