Best Offense Ever?

Mel Kiper has long been recognized as having the best hair in the sports media biz. Now, he might be staking claim to a new title: biggest OU homer.

In a column published today on ESPN.com, Kiper said he has seen “few, if any,” offenses in the last 30 years that rival the Sooners’ 2008 unit. He also offered effusive praise for quarterback Sam Bradford, contending that the Sooner field general might end up being the most sought-after prospect among the current signal callers that will be NFL-eligible after the season.
This isn’t Cooter from Alva gushing over Bradford and the Oklahoma O. Kiper cuts a controversial figure by the very nature of what he does, having made his name as ESPN’s NFL draft guru. However, Homerism typically puts a lot of stock in what Kiper has to say when it comes to both the draft and college punditry. As much of a crapshoot as evaluating NFL prospects may be, I’d be willing to put Kiper’s scouting skills up against the best of them. He also seems to be pretty plugged in when it comes to the buzz among NFL personnel guys.
So when Kiper says the Sooners tore up a Cincinnati defense that will produce “several” NFL players, Homerism thinks that means something.
