Draft Preview: San Diego Chargers

April 20, 2009

Pick 16: San Diego Chargers

Strengths: Tons of talent
Weaknesses: Can’t get over the hump
The Pick: Brian Cushing, LB, USC

Homerism thinks the Super Chargers would benefit most from drafting more of a true defensive end. Yet, without any strong candidates available at this point, Cushing makes the most sense.
The scouts have been drooling over Cush since his freshman year in SoCal. He’s fast, strong and explosive. He’s just a great defensive football player. He also has the USC pedigree going for him, which means something when it comes to producing polished defenders.
The Chargers would be getting a great talent in Cush to make a strong defense that much better.
